Chocolate milk

It all began with chocolate milk. I moved to Vancouver in 1963 and went to grade 1 at Vancouver College at a well known Catholic school. I wore a uniform, white shirt and tie, blue blazer and grey flannel shorts with cuffs and a crease down the middle. I was a cute freckled kid that resembled Dennis the Menace. Back then the church was powerful especially at Catholic school. Corporal punishment was still fashionable and I was a frequent recipient during my 10 years at VC. But I digress. Chocolate milk was off limits to students in grades 1 to 3. As sugar is the gateway drug, I did not like being deprived of my daily treat. As luck would have it, My older brother was in grade 4. He bought chocolate milk for me and I sold it for profit to the kids in grades 1 to 3. To this day I remember the feeling of pure joy while drinking my first free carton. I loved talking to the other kids, collecting money and distributing the product. I was never caught. It was the beginning of who I am today.
